Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
As much as I love Sakho's goal scoring, his first half was extremely poor at times.

Course carroll can play a part. We just scored 3 headers!!

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
I'd use Carroll as an impact sub if we need a goal or emergency centre back

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
He'd start on the bench for me. Sakho and Valencia deserve to keep starting imo. Carroll would be used as a different option.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
He'll give us another option when he's back. Having 3 good forwards with cole in reserve is excellent. But he surely can't just walk straight back into the team

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
The other thing I noticed yesterday was Ginge forgot himself on numerous occasions booting it up aimlessly to no one, I think he thought Carroll was up there?

With Carroll back we will go back to long ball and be predictable again. Let's move on.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
He wouldn't be in my starting 11, not fair on the others if they are all scoring.

Cole would even feel hard done by if he was replaced for a fit Carroll on the bench next game. Bad for team moral.

My biggest worry with Carroll is that he is injury prone and therefore I would only use him as sub (unless Sakho and Valencia have a loss of form, injured or at African Nations) from now on to reduce injury.

Carroll will do well if played and will want to start next game, but will get injured again. Best to get rid while we can.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
It's easy to say you wouldn't pick him after all three strikers scored
When he's fully fit he's in my starting line up

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
As already mentioned we'll probably lose Sakho for African nations cup.I would think Kouyate and Song would be off to it as well.So if we can get Carrol fit for that period of the season it will at least give us some options.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
Of course Green has been with us for a long time, so Adrian is still a small sample size, but I still feel more relaxed with Adrian between the sticks.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
One of the big differences for me this year is that we have options. We lose a player through a ban or injury we have very decent back up in most positions.

I wouldn't pick Carroll ahead of the players we are currently starting with but they will not always be available to start.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
Obviously I hope things stay as they are but I'd like to see a 3 of AC in the middle with the other 2 playing wide off of him.

Saying that, Sakho wouldn't have had half the chances in that formation.

Nice problem to have!

Green was much better for us than Adrian has been.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
As for Adrian I have to say he makes me far less nervous than Jussi or even Green ever did...Adrian will continue to gain experience and improve, he's nowhere near his peak yet.

But he needs sompetition for his place in the starting eleven now, just like we have all over the pitch...

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
Pagey 11.39 - I think that's right on both points. Carroll on the end of the kind of crosses put in yesterday would be a fucking nightmare for defenders. Ignoring the wisdom of playing a lone target man, the problem we've had as much as anything is that the crossing into the box from Jarvis, Demel and Downing on his wrong foot was woeful last season. Whipped in, quality crosses like we saw yesterday are an entirely different proposition. I'd be trying to move Jarvis on in January.

Sakho won't continue to score every game and he and Valencia will lose form/get injured etc. The main problem with a fit Carroll is not whether or not he's good enough, but whether or not he'd accept a bit part.

Adrian is a bit of a worry. Not a massive worry, but I'd love to have the equivalent of a Ludo or Parkes between the sticks for us. Adrian just makes me nervous.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
Need to find a way of getting the three of them on the pitch. It's possible Song or Noble would have to be sacrificed on current form. Although Downings form surely can't last forever.

Adrian
Jenk Tomk Reid Cress
Noble or Song
Kayoute Downing
Valencia
Sakho Carroll

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
Why change the team when they have all been performing well? We've seen that even Nolan is not worthy of a start since returning from injury.

The only player that has gone straight back in is Noble and I expect Kouyate to also walk straight back into team too. It's a long season so there will be changes here and there. I think it's important that AC focuses on getting 100% fit before being brought back, this can only be a positve for the team.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
I suppose when he eventually shows up in the team, there's a chance he will get injured again. I'm not giving it much thought at the moment tbh.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
I don't understand why, when things are going well, there has to be a downside? Carroll on his day is unplayable and hopefully, when he's fit, the competition for places will ensure that he's better than ever. I do wonder if he has the same heart and work ethic as Valencia and Sakho though. Carroll as our third choice striker would be a mark of how much we've improved.

Our next big signing should be a top drawer goalkeeper. Adrian is good but there's a big difference between a good goalkeeper and an excellent one. I'm not sure who but there must be a few highly sought after and highly rated keepers out there who would love to sign for us.

Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
If our Forwards are playing well and scoring then no. But like when Cole came on Carroll can do the same and hopefully do better.
I've always thought Carroll should play with a quick man alongside him not some one from midfield in behind him.
Carroll and Sakho would be a good combination, infact Valencia and Carroll would work.
Pick any 2 from 3, both Sakho and Valencia are going to need a break when the harsher elements of our winter set in.

Norflundon 11:36 Sun Oct 19
Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
I think he'd be a decent impact player from the bench especially late in games when we're losing or drawing and you've got a team on the rack like the Man Utd game for instance shit loads of crosses went in in the last 10mins
But If he starts you just know we'll go back to lumping it long in fact had him and nolan not got injured fuck knows where we'd be now...

connolly8 11:31 Sun Oct 19
Re: Now, would you pick Carroll..
No striker would have scored consistently for us the way we played last year, we struggled to create clear cut chances. Had Carroll been playing in this system i think he would have had 5+ this season.
